LMS Members take the honors at the 2016 Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championship

May 20, 2016

The Livestock Marketing Association of Canada (LMAC) held their 2016 convention and Auctioneering Championship May 12 -15 in Grand Bend, Ontario. The Livestock Marketers of Saskatchewan (LMS) had a strong presence among the twenty nine auctioneers, from Alberta to Quebec, who competed in the annual Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championship. The hosts of this year's competition were Ontario Livestock Auction Markets Association and Brussels Livestock.

Ryan Hurlburt of, Saskatoon Livestock Sales, earned the winning buckle and title of Champion Auctioneer last weekend. Ryan was last year’s winner of the Man/Sask Auctioneering Championship, which qualified him for a shot at the 2015 Canadian title where he finished third, receiving the Canadian Simmental Association Buckle. Rhett Parks, of Whitewood Livestock Sales and member of the LMS Board, made it into the top ten during the final round of the competition. You can watch the entire LMAC Canadian Livestock Auctioneer Championship at

Mike Fleury, also of Saskatoon Livestock Sales, was the 2016 LMAC Hall of Fame inductee. Mike joins LMS Board member Roy Rutledge among the individuals whose outstanding contribution of time, effort and skill has helped improve livestock marketing in Canada. Also of note, Cowtown Livestock Exchange Inc, in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, was the recipient of this year’s Canadian Angus Stockyard of the Year Award.

Congratulations to all LMS members who participated in the 2016 competition!
